On Monday in Algiers, Algeria's Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, sat down with Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, his «counterpart» from the Polisario Front. The meeting served as a platform for both officials to share insights and perspectives on the latest developments surrounding the Sahrawi issue. They explored «the means and prospects that would enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination, in line with relevant United Nations resolutions, including Resolution 2797 recently adopted by the Security Council», as per a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This engagement follows just a day after Brahim Ghali, during a speech at his movement's youth congress, declared that «the Polisario Front is prepared to collaborate with the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, and to enter into serious and sincere negotiations, without preconditions, under the auspices of the United Nations. This aims to create conditions that would allow the Sahrawi people to freely and sovereignly decide their future, in accordance with UN resolutions and the principles of international law». The meeting between Ahmed Attaf and Mohamed Yeslem Beissat occurred on the sidelines of the conference on «colonial crimes in Africa», which took place on November 30 and December 1 in Algiers. The two parties had previously convened on November 3 in the Algerian capital.
