DR ‹ › A Dutch school is facing backlash after a classroom assignment involving Moroccans sparked outrage among parents. According to local media, Lentiz | LIFE College in Schiedam, west of the Netherlands, handed out a homework exercise titled «Application letter from a Moroccan», which parents described as racist and deeply inappropriate. The assignment required students to correct a mock Dutch application letter written «by a Moroccan». The text contained derogatory stereotypes, including lines such as: «My name is Abdel, and my residence permit, which expired three years ago, says Abedellah», and «Not all Moroccans are thieves, Surinamese too». It ended with: «Greetings to your mothers». A mother who saw the document after her daughter brought it home posted it online, questioning why her Moroccan child was being given such material. The post went viral, generating hundreds of reactions and raising broader concerns about discrimination in schools. The school acknowledged that the letter was «inappropriate» and «contrary to its values», saying the teacher had used an old sample text circulating online to illustrate writing mistakes. Administrators met with the teacher, apologized to the family, and informed parents and staff that the material should never have been part of the curriculum.
