DR ‹ › An emergency meeting was held on Monday at the headquarters of the Safi provincial authority in response to the exceptional rainfall and flooding that struck the city, causing loss of life and significant material damage. Chaired by the Wali of the Marrakech–Safi region and Governor of the Marrakech prefecture, Khatib El Hebil, and attended by the Governor of Safi province, Mohammed Fettah, the President of the Regional Council, representatives of regional security services, and officials from the relevant decentralized departments, the meeting reviewed the overall situation in the city and the impacts of the floods. Discussions focused on assessing the damage recorded across the neighborhoods affected by the violent flash floods, as well as on identifying urgent measures needed to mitigate the consequences and ensure residents' safety. Participants underscored the mobilization of all necessary human and logistical resources, the strengthening of coordination among all stakeholders, and the maintenance of a maximum state of alert to minimize the impact of the floods and address their effects swiftly, while ensuring appropriate support and assistance. Local authorities reported that the death toll from the exceptional thunderstorms and sudden, powerful flash floods that occurred on Sunday evening has risen to 37. Public authorities, Civil Protection teams, security forces, and all involved actors continue operations on the ground, including search, rescue, and assistance efforts for affected residents.
