DR ‹ › The rainfall recorded in the city center on Sunday exceeded 60 millimeters in just three hours, the provincial director of Equipment, Transport, and Logistics in Safi, Abdelrahim Tanas, stated on Monday. In a statement to MAP, Tanas explained that «the rain that fell on the city Sunday varied in intensity between the center, the south, and the north», noting that the heaviest concentration was recorded in the old medina. He added that the rest of the city did not experience the same volume of precipitation as the city center, where rainfall surpassed 60 mm in three hours, a level that explains the scale of the flooding observed in the Sidi Bouadheb area. Regarding infrastructure, the official noted that the stormwater drainage channel at Jorf Amouni, part of the Jorf Amouni reinforcement project, was open and functioning normally. Tanas also recalled that the human toll from the exceptional thunderstorms and sudden flash floods that struck the province on Sunday evening has risen to 37 deaths, according to figures from local authorities. Emergency operations by public authorities, civil protection units, security forces, and all relevant responders are still ongoing, with field sweeps, search and rescue efforts, and assistance being provided to affected residents.
