DR ‹ › The Casablanca Court of Appeal upheld, on Wednesday, December 17, the initial verdict against activist and blogger Saida El Alami sentencing her to three years in prison. El Alami had previously been sentenced on September 16 by the Ain Sebaa Court of First Instance in Casablanca to three years in prison, following her arrest in early July, along with a fine of 20,000 dirhams. She was prosecuted on charges including «insulting an organized body», «insulting the judiciary», and «spreading and disseminating false allegations». In a separate case, the Casablanca Court of Appeal had sentenced El Alami in September 2022 to three years in prison, increasing an initial two-year sentence handed down by the Court of First Instance. She was released in July 2024 under a royal pardon granted on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Throne Day. In that earlier case, El Alami had been prosecuted for insulting an organized body, insulting public officials while performing their duties through statements deemed to undermine their authority, disparaging judicial rulings, and broadcasting and distributing false allegations with the intent to defame individuals.
