DR ‹ › Moroccan streamer Ilyas El Malki was sentenced on Tuesday by the El Jadida Court of First Instance to 10 months in prison and a fine of 20,000 dirhams. The ruling was confirmed by his brother on social media. The public prosecutor charged El Malki with spreading false allegations intended to undermine private life, defamation and insults against individuals and organized bodies, public indecency through acts offending public morals, as well as incitement to discrimination and hatred through shouting and threats in public places. He was also prosecuted for possession and consumption of drugs. El Malki was arrested in early November following formal complaints filed by several trade union and civil society representatives from the taxi sector. They accused him of making statements on his digital platforms that harmed their dignity and damaged their public image, prompting them to pursue legal action. This is not the first time El Malki has faced legal proceedings over his online content. In a previous case, the El Jadida Court of Appeal sentenced him to two months suspended following complaints by Amazigh activists over remarks made during a live broadcast that were deemed offensive.
