Speaking to Spanish media outlets, Barrachina explained that the new rules require fishermen to weigh each species of fish, up to 200 different types, while still at sea, and report these weights at least two and a half hours before docking. He described these regulations as «unworkable, as if they were conceived by extraterrestrials.» Barrachina further argued that these measures «practically encourage the importation of fish from Morocco, which is not subject to similar fishing restrictions,» rather than supporting local Mediterranean fisheries. He urged the Spanish government to completely revoke this «absurd» measure.
