DR ‹ › The day after the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) final between the Atlas Lions and the Lions of Teranga, Senegalese diplomacy expressed its gratitude to Morocco as the host country «for the flawless organization of this high-level continental competition». In a statement released on Monday, Senegal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised «the outstanding quality of the infrastructure, the meticulous organization, as well as the hospitality, availability, and constant support provided to the Senegalese delegation, the participating teams, and all supporters throughout the tournament». «The final offered African and international audiences an intense, high-quality football spectacle, reflecting the talent and ambition of both nations. Above all, it showcased two brotherly countries bound by strong ties of every kind», the statement said. The ministry further noted that «the sporting result, as favorable as it may be for Senegal, in no way diminishes the merit, fighting spirit, and quality of the Moroccan team, which proudly and gracefully represented the Kingdom of Morocco». Without addressing the incidents that marked the final, the Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted both the overall success of AFCON 2025 and Morocco's performance on the pitch. This position contrasts with earlier remarks made by head coach Pape Thiaw and statements issued by the Senegalese Football Federation. During the final, the Lions of Teranga temporarily left the field in protest after a penalty was awarded to the Atlas Lions. The situation escalated into tensions in the stands, where Senegalese supporters attempted to invade the pitch. Although the match eventually resumed, the incidents did not go without repercussions. The day after the final, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that it was reviewing video footage and would refer the matter to the relevant disciplinary bodies for appropriate action.
