DR ‹ › A man in his thirties has been placed in pre-trial detention at Ait Melloul prison, on the orders of the competent public prosecutor, in connection with charges of inciting hatred and discrimination against migrants from Sub-Saharan African countries residing in the commune of Lqliâa. The Royal Gendarmerie in Lqliâa arrested the suspect on Saturday night at his home. He was subsequently placed in custody at the Royal Gendarmerie's judicial center in Inezgane, before being brought before the public prosecutor, who ordered that he be prosecuted while in custody. The charges stem mainly from several posts published on the suspect's Facebook page, which has around 60,000 followers and focuses on local news and events in Lqliâa. According to the investigation, the posts included calls urging residents and property owners not to rent their homes to migrants from Sub-Saharan African countries. The arrest comes amid a rise in racially charged rhetoric on social media, following incidents that accompanied the Morocco–Senegal match in the Africa Cup of Nations final.
