DR ‹ › Morocco's AS FAR will face Arsenal this Wednesday in the semi-final of the inaugural FIFA Women's Champions Cup. The match, to be played at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium in London (18:00 GMT), will mark the first time an African club faces a European side in a competitive women's fixture. «AS FAR playing against Arsenal is a very special moment», former captain and current Morocco international Ghizlane Chebbak told BBC Sport. «This match represents the level the club has reached and reflects the remarkable progress of women's football in Morocco». AS FAR are emerging as a major contender in the newly launched competition. They are the most successful women's team on the African continent. The Rabat-based side have won all but one domestic league title since 2013 and have lifted the CAF Women's Champions League twice since its launch in 2021, most recently in November, securing their place in this global competition. The squad also features several Morocco internationals, including 2023 Women's World Cup players Annisa Lahmari, Sanaa Mssoudy, and Fatima Tagnaout. It is worth noting that the 2026 FIFA Women's Champions Cup is the competition's first edition. Organised by FIFA, it brings together the champion clubs from each of the six continental confederations and is held annually in three out of every four years (excluding years with a FIFA Women's Club World Cup) to determine the world's top women's club team. The winners of Wednesday's semi-final will advance to the final at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium on Sunday, 1 February, where a record prize of $2.3 million awaits the champions.
