Jacques Leveugle, a former educator aged 79, has been charged with aggravated rape and sexual assault on minors, offenses that span over 50 years and involve at least 89 boys in several countries, including Morocco. The Grenoble prosecutor's office has issued a call for witnesses to identify any other potential victims, but only two complaints have been filed so far. DR ‹ › This is a case remarkable for both its scale and its duration. Jacques Leveugle, 79, a former educator and avid traveler, is now under investigation for aggravated rape and sexual assault of minors. The alleged abuse is said to have spanned more than half a century, from 1967 to 2022, involving at least 89 boys aged 13 to 17 at the time, across nine countries, including Morocco. The investigation took a decisive turn when Leveugle's nephew handed authorities several USB drives containing around fifteen autobiographical volumes written by the suspect. In these so-called «memoirs», investigators identified nearly 200 minors, according to France Bleu. To date, 89 victims have been formally identified. The alleged acts reportedly occurred in nine countries: France, Germany, Switzerland, Morocco, Algeria, Niger, India, the Philippines, and Colombia. Some sources also refer to a tenth country: Portugal. The Grenoble prosecutor's office, which is handling the case, took the rare step of making Jacques Leveugle's identity public and issuing a call for witnesses. The objective is to allow potential victims, some identified only by pseudonyms in the writings, to come forward. Many victims identified but very few complaints Approximately 150 people have already been interviewed by investigators, but at this stage, only two victims have become civil parties, which means they have formally initiated legal proceedings. Many do not wish to reopen old wounds, while others face legal limitations or live abroad, complicating the procedures. The case is not limited to sexual violence. In his writings, Jacques Leveugle claims to have caused the death of his mother in 1974, while she was suffering from cancer, as well as that of his aunt in 1992. These elements are the subject of separate investigations. Born in Annecy in 1946, Jacques Leveugle was in contact with minors throughout his career. He pursued training as a specialized educator, which he did not complete. He later worked in youth camps, educational stays for troubled youth, and provided tutoring. These various positions led him to work in several countries. Currently in pre-trial detention, he partially contests the allegations. The call for witnesses remains open. The magistrates believe that the actual number of victims could exceed those already identified. In Morocco, no official communication has been made about this case, nor has a call for witnesses been issued by the authorities.
