Igoudar Sidi Moussa (Azilal province) / DR ‹ › In a written inquiry submitted on February 12 to the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, PPS MP Zohra El Moumen raised concerns over the risk of collapse threatening several iconic examples of Amazigh architecture. Recognized in September 2014 as part of UNESCO's Global Geoparks Network, the site spans nearly 5,700 square kilometers and is home to a unique geological and architectural heritage. The igoudar, ancient communal granaries, embody what El Moumen describes as «the genius of Amazigh architecture», reflecting a social system built on solidarity and mutual support. However, recent heavy rainfall and snowfall in the region have accelerated their deterioration, compounding years of insufficient restoration and maintenance efforts. El Moumen specifically pointed to the granaries of Sidi Moussa, Sidi Chita, and Ibaqlioun in the commune of Tabant (Azilal province), as well as the granary of Oujgal in the commune of Boutferda (Béni Mellal province). Some of these structures now pose potential risks to both residents and visitors. Beyond their heritage value, the MP emphasized that these sites were intended to serve as drivers of tourism and cultural development in the region. She called on the minister to clarify what measures are planned to protect these monuments and prevent their gradual disappearance.
