DR ‹ › Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye received a high-level Moroccan Sufi delegation at the presidential palace in Dakar on Tuesday. The delegation was led by Sidi Mohamed El Kebir, Caliph General of the Tijaniyya order in Morocco. Discussions focused on the organization of the national Hadaratoul Jummah, a major spiritual gathering held under the Tijaniyya's current leadership. The initiative remains a cornerstone of religious life in Senegal and a key channel of cultural exchange with Morocco, where the order was founded in the 18th century, Agence de Presse Africaine reported. President Faye was joined by senior figures from the Senegalese Tijaniyya branch. According to participants, the meeting reaffirmed that Senegal–Morocco ties go beyond trade and politics, resting on a centuries-old Sufi fraternity that continues to shape bilateral cooperation. The audience concluded with collective prayers for regional peace and the continued strength of the Dakar–Rabat partnership, described as a model of South-South cooperation in Africa. Beyond Sufism, Morocco and Senegal further strengthened diplomatic relations in January by holding the 15th session of the Morocco–Senegal Joint Commission, which resulted in the signing of 17 agreements aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.
