Rodrigo Paz Pereira, President of Bolivia / DR ‹ › Bolivia has announced the suspension of its recognition of the so-called «SADR». The decision was made public following a phone call on Monday between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Bolivian counterpart, Fernando Aramayo. «The Plurinational State of Bolivia, in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025) and reaffirming its support for the political process under the auspices of the United Nations, has re-evaluated its foreign policy. Following this review, Bolivia has decided to suspend its diplomatic relations with the entity known as the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and to cease all official contact, emphasizing that it is not recognized as a member state of the United Nations», a joint communiqué stated. «This decision reflects Bolivia's desire to contribute constructively to international efforts aimed at achieving a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting political solution, based on compromise, in line with the parameters established by the United Nations». The two countries also agreed to restore diplomatic relations and to initiate the necessary steps toward opening resident diplomatic missions in La Paz and Rabat. The move comes after the defeat of Polisario-aligned forces in Bolivia's recent presidential elections, held in August and October 2025. Rodrigo Paz Pereira, a center-right candidate, assumed office as Bolivia's new president on November 8.
