DR ‹ › As the start date draws closer, uncertainty continues to surround the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, with some voices even suggesting that the kingdom could withdraw as host. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to clarify the situation in the coming days, according to CAF communications chief Luxolo September. «There has been several discussions for weeks. The matter is receiving urgent and high-level attention», he wrote on X on Wednesday. Morocco is set to host the tournament for the third consecutive time. On February 13, CAF President Patrice Motsepe reaffirmed that the 16th edition would go ahead in the kingdom as planned and ruled out postponing the dates. «We still have an engagement with Morocco», he said. South Africa, which previously offered to step in as host, renewed its stance. On Wednesday, South African Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie criticized the uncertainty just 13 days before the tournament's kickoff. «If Morocco is ready to host the WAFCON because they had a brilliant AFCON, they should do so. But if they are not ready, we want to tell them, we are not a country with no stadiums… We will never be held hostage by countries that have less than what we have», he said. CAF expanded the tournament to 16 teams in November. Nigeria are the defending champions after defeating Morocco 3-2 in last year's final.
