Algerian Minister of Communication, Zohir Bouamama ‹ › Algerian media have been abuzz since yesterday following the decision by CAF's Appeals Committee, which ruled in favor of Morocco as the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final after Senegal's last-minute withdrawal. Guests on Algerian television programs described the ruling as evidence of «corruption» and «interference by Moroccan authorities» in the affairs of the continental football body. Some commentators even went as far as calling for Algeria to withdraw from CAF. The reaction extended beyond the media to the political sphere. Minister of Communication Zouheir Bouamama wrote on Facebook that the decision constituted an «unprecedented scandal», adding that «it is time to cleanse CAF of the corruption entrenched within it for years». This strong reaction comes despite the fact that Algeria was not involved in the final, having been eliminated in the quarter-finals of the tournament. The final between Morocco and Senegal was marked by dramatic scenes after a last-minute penalty was awarded to Morocco. In protest, the Senegalese team briefly left the pitch before returning to continue the match.
