DR ‹ › A 20-year-old British tourist was detained in Marrakech after filming himself distributing basic supplies to street children using funds raised on social media. Arrested on March 5, the man was accused by authorities of recording minors without their consent, his mother told the Daily Mail. He was held for several hours, taken to multiple police stations, and had his passport and phone confiscated for days. Rushton had been on holiday with his brother when he decided to help children he saw begging, buying essentials such as milk, nappies and food. After raising donations online, he filmed himself purchasing and distributing the supplies. «He was just filming this to prove to people back here who donated that he didn't do a fast one with the money and actually spent it on the kids», his mother said. Following his release, he remained stranded in Morocco for over a week after being told he would face a judge. His mother launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover legal fees and living costs, explaining: «He was struggling with understanding the lawyers and local authorities… there was still a clear language barrier». After securing a lawyer, he was allowed to return to the UK on March 14, with the hearing adjourned until April. A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office confirmed it had supported «the family of a British man detained in Morocco» and had been in contact with local authorities.
