DR ‹ › Police in Essaouira, acting on precise intelligence from the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), thwarted an international drug trafficking attempt on Tuesday afternoon, seizing 11.755 tonnes (11 tons and 755 kg) of cannabis resin. According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the operation, carried out in coordination with local authorities and the Royal Gendarmerie, led to the interception of three utility vehicles fitted with falsified license plates. The drivers abandoned the vehicles following a security chase that began in a rural area on the outskirts of the city. A search of the vehicles uncovered bales of cannabis resin intended for international trafficking, totaling 11 tons and 755 kilograms, along with 10 fake license plates, the same source said. As part of the same operation, the Royal Gendarmerie also seized a fourth vehicle in the rural area of Sidi Kaouki, suspected of being linked to the same trafficking network. Investigations are ongoing to identify all those involved and uncover the full extent of the network and its connections.
