DR ‹ › In response to soaring camel meat prices in the Saharan provinces, the Mauritanian Federation of Camel Breeders has announced its readiness to export herds to these regions. In a statement, the organization said the initiative aims to «support the development of the camel sector, effectively meet local market needs, and strengthen economic and trade exchanges between operators in both countries». The Federation added that exports could be carried out at competitive prices, while strictly complying with existing health, veterinary, and regulatory standards. This proposal comes amid a week-long boycott of camel meat across the three regions of Morocco's Sahara, launched in response to sharp price increases, with the cost per kilogram now reaching 150 dirhams. However, the initiative has drawn criticism from Polisario supporters on social media, who have described it as «a stab in the back of the Sahrawi people». In 2025, ahead of Eid al-Adha, Mauritanian breeders had already proposed exporting sheep to Morocco, as prices were also rising at the time.
