DR ‹ › In a large-scale operation, Spain's National Police dismantled two criminal networks involved in migrant smuggling and drug trafficking between Morocco and Andalusia. The operation, dubbed «Embrión», led to the arrest of 24 suspects. Investigators identified at least 38 illegal sea crossings, during which nearly 1,000 migrants were transported by speedboats from Morocco to the Spanish coast, particularly in the Almeria and Granada areas. The probe found that the two networks were closely linked, sharing the same logistical infrastructure, including boats, maintenance workshops, and storage facilities. They were also involved in the trafficking of drugs and weapons. The operation was carried out with the support of European agencies, including Europol and French police units specializing in combating migrant smuggling. The suspects face multiple charges, including organizing irregular migration, drug trafficking, smuggling, document forgery, and membership in a criminal organization, as well as other offenses related to public safety and theft. Authorities also seized 23 boats, several high-end vehicles, firearms and knives, along with large sums of cash and equipment used in smuggling operations. Investigations indicate that the networks operated in coordination with international criminal groups, particularly in Morocco, organizing crossings for fees ranging between €10,000 and €15,000 per person under dangerous conditions.
