DR ‹ › On Wednesday in Vienna, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to initiate a strategic dialogue between Morocco and Austria. This significant agreement was formalized by Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and Austria's Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Beate Meinl-Reisinger. The MoU reflects the shared ambition of both nations to enhance their friendly relations and cooperation across various domains, particularly political and economic. The goal is to elevate these ties to a strategic partnership, grounded in mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence, and non-interference in domestic affairs. By establishing this strategic dialogue, Morocco and Austria underscore their belief that regular consultations and the exchange of information on bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual concern will foster a deeper understanding between the two countries. The agreement draws on the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, emphasizing the importance of the historic and privileged partnership between Morocco and Austria, which marked its 240th anniversary on February 28, 2023. This MoU also builds on the strong momentum and significant progress achieved following Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer's official visit to Morocco. This visit culminated in the adoption of a Joint Declaration in Rabat on March 28, 2023. In this context, Rabat and Vienna express their mutual commitment to bolstering bilateral cooperation and establishing a strategic dialogue. This initiative aims to deepen existing collaborations and explore new avenues of partnership in various areas of shared interest.
