DR ‹ › A Moroccan honorary consulate was inaugurated on Thursday in the Austrian region of Carinthia, marked by a ceremony attended by the Kingdom's ambassador to Austria, Azzeddine Farhane. The event, graced by the presence of Carinthia's governor, Peter Kaiser, alongside key political, economic, and diplomatic figures, saw Mr. Farhane appoint Walter Hell-Höflinger as Morocco's honorary consul. The gathering also brought together honorary consuls accredited in the region, business representatives, Austrian institutional delegates, and members of the press. In his address, Farhane highlighted that the ceremony was not only a tribute to an esteemed individual but also a celebration of the enduring friendship between Morocco and Austria. «Today's ceremony is not just an opportunity to honor a distinguished figure but also to celebrate the profound and lasting friendship that unites the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Austria,» he stated, recalling that diplomatic ties between the two nations date back over two centuries, with Morocco's first ambassador presenting his credentials on February 28, 1783, to Emperor Joseph II. Today, the relations between Morocco and Austria have reached a high level of political maturity, characterized by mutual trust, regular exchanges, and a shared commitment to stability, multilateralism, and sustainable development, noted the diplomat. This relationship was crowned by the official visit to Morocco in February 2023 by Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer and the adoption of a joint political declaration as a roadmap for future cooperation between Morocco and Austria. He added that the appointment of Walter Hell-Höflinger as honorary consul comes at an opportune moment to bolster economic ties between Morocco and the Carinthia region, facilitate economic initiatives, and connect Austrian business leaders with their Moroccan counterparts. Governor Peter Kaiser lauded the robust relations between Austria and Morocco, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in a world facing uncertainty and new challenges that demand joint efforts to enhance exchanges between nations, both economically and socially. The newly appointed honorary consul expressed his dedication to fostering cooperation between the two countries and strengthening economic relations between Carinthia and Morocco.
