DR ‹ › Jorge Buxadé, the leader of the Vox party delegation in the European Parliament, has sharply criticized what he perceives as the «complete inaction» of the European Commission in its handling of relations with Morocco. His inquiry was directed at the High Representative of the European Union, questioning the EU's approach to its southern neighbor. The far-right party, known for its critical stance towards Morocco, accused the European institutions of maintaining a preferential relationship with Rabat. Vox claims that the EU continues to bolster political and economic ties with Morocco, treating it as a «trusted» partner without demanding any reciprocal commitments. In a memorandum submitted to European authorities, Vox outlined several actions it believes Morocco has recently taken to increase pressure on Spanish interests. Chief among these, the party cited ongoing trade restrictions affecting the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, which it considers «detrimental to Spanish businesses and in violation of bilateral agreements». The memorandum also highlighted a significant rise in irregular migration at land borders, with a reported 479% increase, along with what Vox described as Morocco's unilateral expansion of its exclusive economic zone into waters near the Canary Islands, labeling this as a «direct infringement on national sovereignty». Vox's criticisms extend beyond European institutions to the Spanish government itself. The party argues that the current EU foreign policy threatens Spain's territorial unity, security, and economy. They accuse the Sánchez government of remaining silent and adopting a stance of «complete submission» to Morocco. Vox is calling for an urgent reassessment of this approach, demanding a stronger European response that defends Ceuta, Melilla, and the Canary Islands, while ensuring adherence to international agreements.
