In the early hours of Sunday, a devastating fire erupted at the «souk rbiaa» market in the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali area of Marrakech, causing extensive material damage. According to local media, the blaze started among a cluster of makeshift shacks established by merchants in the market. This led to the destruction of significant sections of the market, inciting panic among merchants and nearby residents. Civil protection teams were dispatched promptly to combat the inferno. Farid Chourak, the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, visited the site of the blaze, where he engaged with several affected merchants. He assured them that urgent measures would be coordinated with the relevant authorities. Chourak also ordered the complete closure of the market pending necessary investigations and announced a meeting with the impacted people scheduled for next Thursday. This meeting will address the market's situation and potential support measures during the upcoming municipal council session. Currently, the cause of the fire remains unknown, as investigations by the concerned authorities are underway to determine the circumstances of the incident and assess the extent of the losses incurred.
