A Royal Armed Forces (FAR) drone destroyed a Polisario vehicle yesterday in the M'Hiriz region, east of the Sand Wall, a Moroccan security source told Yabiladi. «The preliminary report of this airstrike indicates four deaths among the armed Polisario militias», the same source added. Meanwhile, a media outlet affiliated with the Polisario Front offered a different version of events, accusing the Moroccan Army of targeting «Sahrawi civilians aboard a vehicle in the liberated territory of M'Hiriz». However, no casualty figures were provided. Since November 13, 2020, FAR drones and aircraft have prevented the Polisario from accessing the so-called «liberated territories» to organize congresses, celebrate religious festivals as they did in the past, or harass Moroccan military positions. This latest strike comes as the separatist movement prepares to receive Staffan de Mistura, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, who is currently holding consultations with the parties involved in the conflict. De Mistura has already visited Rabat and Nouakchott.
