Yesterday afternoon, hundreds of people responded to a call from several civil society organizations, including the Moroccan Initiative for Support and Advocacy, to protest the United States' military support for Israel. They argue that these arms transfers make Washington complicit in the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip and the prolonged occupation of the West Bank. In Salé, the demonstration took place at Bab Mrissa Square. Protesters, waving Palestinian and Moroccan flags, chanted slogans denouncing «the world's silence» and reaffirmed their solidarity with the Palestinian people. A sign reading «Morocco and Palestine are one people«was seen, according to a correspondent from Anadolu Agency. On-site, Abdelhafid Sriti, coordinator of the Action Group for Palestine, condemned the Israeli government for «destruction, corruption, and criminality» against Gaza, asserting that it receives backing from Washington and several Western capitals, the agency added. A similar demonstration occurred the same day in Tangier. Videos shared by Hassan Bennajeh, a member of the General Secretariat of the political group Al Adl Wal Ihsane, showed protesters voicing the same sentiments: outrage over the bombings of civilians, solidarity with Palestinians, and condemnation of international inaction. These protests come amid a severe humanitarian crisis. Le Monde, citing Gaza's Ministry of Health and UNRWA, reported on Wednesday, June 11, that over 55,000 people have been killed by the Israeli army since October 7, 2023, a figure confirmed by the United Nations. In the Gaza Strip, nearly 2,700 children are currently suffering from acute malnutrition, while the healthcare system is collapsing in the northern part of the territory.
