A 45-year-old man, wanted for his alleged role in a drug-related murder in the Île-de-France region and on the run for several months, was arrested on June 12 in Casablanca while attempting to leave Morocco using forged documents en route to Tunisia, according to Le Parisien. He is suspected of orchestrating the killing of 32-year-old Djallal Chaabi, who was shot dead in January in the lobby of a building in Les Ulis, a suburb of Paris. The murder is believed to have been carried out by two young men, aged 18 and 19, from Lyon. Both are now facing murder charges. Investigators point to a turf war over a drug-dealing spot as the motive. The alleged mastermind is said to have recruited the two teenagers via social media, offering them around €10,000, according to a source cited by the French daily. Before his arrest in Morocco, the suspect had reportedly fled France to Spain, where he allegedly swallowed a mini-phone in an attempt to destroy evidence. His run came to an end in Casablanca, thanks to cooperation between French and Moroccan authorities. He is currently in custody in Morocco, awaiting extradition proceedings.
