The Zouj Beghal border crossing between Morocco and Algeria was exceptionally opened on Wednesday, July 30, to repatriate the body of a young Moroccan woman, which had remained on the Algerian side for nearly a year and a half. According to the Moroccan Association for the Assistance of Migrants in Difficult Situations in Oujda, the young woman drowned on an Algerian beach while attempting to migrate irregularly. Her body had been held in Algeria pending the completion of legal procedures. The association stated that the repatriation was the result of ongoing communication and correspondence with the relevant authorities, noting that the woman's name had been included in several appeals. The organization also announced the imminent release of a new group of Moroccan nationals detained in Algerian prisons for attempting irregular migration, with the number possibly exceeding 60. In a related development, Moroccan civil society organizations are preparing to take part in the upcoming international summer camp in Nantes, France, scheduled for August 5 to 10. The event is expected to address the issue of those missing, deceased, or detained as a result of irregular migration, the association added.
