Jamal Ait Lahcen, who tragically died in a motorcycle accident on August 23 in Ocala, Florida, has been repatriated to Morocco for a final farewell. His body arrived from the United States on Sunday and was buried the same day in his hometown of Safi, one of his Moroccan friends in Ocala told Yabiladi on Monday. Ait Lahcen's repatriation was made possible thanks to friends and members of the Moroccan community in Florida, who launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise the necessary funds. Organized by his best friend, Abdelhamid Marouani, the campaign collected $31,601 to cover the cost of transporting Jamal's body to Morocco for burial and to help his family back home with funeral expenses. Ait Lahcen, who had been living in the U.S. for the past five years, was remembered by friends as «a humble, down-to-earth person, loved by everyone in the community». «His passing was sudden, heartbreaking, and has left an enormous void in the lives of everyone who knew and loved him», wrote Abdelhamid Marouani in a heartfelt tribute on GoFundMe. The tragedy occurred as Jamal was returning home from work when his motorcycle collided with a car at a busy intersection. Despite being rushed to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
