An interparliamentary friendship group with Morocco was established on Wednesday within Ecuador's National Assembly, as part of its 2025–2029 legislature. The group is chaired by Paola Michel Jaramillo Zurita, a member of the center-right National Democratic Action (ADN) party led by President Daniel Noboa. Its members also include Luis Esteban Torres Cobo, Diana Patricia Blacio Carrión, Camila Anahí Cueva Toro, Francisco Andrés Cevallos Macías (ADN), Jhajaira Estefanía Urresta Guzmán, and Guillermo Vicente Báez Mera (Citizen Revolution). The composition reflects Ecuador's two main political forces: ADN, the ruling party with 66 seats, and Citizen Revolution (RC–opposition), holding 67 seats in parliament. On this occasion, Morocco's ambassador to Ecuador (residing in Colombia), Farida Loudaya, welcomed the creation of the group, noting that it will support «the new dynamic of rapprochement initiated between the two countries since Ecuador suspended its recognition of the so-called RASD on October 21, 2024». She stressed that the initiative «builds on high-level diplomatic exchanges between Morocco and Ecuador», recalling the historic visit of Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita to Quito on May 24, representing King Mohammed VI at the inauguration of President Daniel Noboa, the first visit of its kind to the Ecuadorian capital. Loudaya also highlighted the visit of Ecuador's Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld to Rabat on July 4, marked by the opening of Ecuador's first embassy in Morocco, which is also the first established by an Andean country in the Maghreb.
