A 32-year-old man from Utrecht was fined €500 and ordered to pay €2,260 in damages, on September 4, after disrupting a flight to Morocco in August 2024, Dutch media reported. The incident began when the passenger refused to return to his assigned seat after moving to a higher-fare seat next to an acquaintance. Despite repeated requests from the crew, he refused to comply, prompting another passenger to intervene and escalate the situation. The Transavia plane was bound for Marrakech from Amsterdam-Schiphol. The captain diverted the plane back to Schiphol while flying over Belgian airspace. Both men were removed and questioned upon landing. The case against the second passenger was dropped earlier, while the Utrecht resident has now been sentenced.
