Human rights activist Sion Assidon, coordinator of the BDS Morocco movement, remains in a coma despite signs of improvement since his hospitalization on August 11. According to a statement received by Yabiladi on Wednesday, September 10, doctors «removed his ventilator following a significant improvement in the lung infection that resulted from his collapse at home». His condition is now «stable», but he «still requires intensive care». Assidon underwent brain surgery early in his hospitalization, followed by a tracheotomy on September 1 «to improve his breathing and reduce the risk of further infection». A feeding tube was also inserted to provide essential nutrients. Since his transfer to Cheikh Khalifa Hospital in Casablanca, five scans have been carried out, showing «improvement in the lung infection». His medical team continues to monitor him closely, hoping for «any positive sign of recovery». His family and friends thanked the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) for arranging his transfer to Cheikh Khalifa Hospital with an ambulance equipped with an anesthetist and for covering costs not included in his insurance. They also praised the hospital staff for their care. Legally, however, they said they have received «no response» to a request filed on August 2 with the prosecutor's office to intensify investigations into the circumstances of his collapse. A follow-up letter was sent on September 3. The Casablanca Court of Appeal prosecutor confirmed on August 19 that the investigation is still ongoing.
