Human rights activist Sion Assidon is currently in intensive care at the Cheikh Khalifa International University Hospital in Casablanca. His condition is described as «stable but serious», according to the medical team. A statement received by Yabiladi from the family and friends of the national coordinator of the BDS Morocco movement (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) reveals that he was hospitalized after being found unconscious at his home in Mohammedia on August 11. An initial scan «revealed a hematoma in the brain with cerebral contusions, as well as a lung infection». The 77-year-old activist underwent surgery for brain decompression before being transferred to Casablanca. Currently in a coma, he remains «in intensive care under respiratory assistance», and is receiving «the conventional treatments dictated by his condition». «His lung infection is being treated with antibiotics, as, according to the doctors, no surgical intervention at this level is appropriate or feasible», his close circle stated. In this context, the doctors «cannot currently make any prognosis». At present, «an investigation is underway by the judicial police under the supervision of the public prosecutor». The family hopes that «the truth will be revealed as soon as possible and that the findings of the investigations will be communicated promptly». The intervention at his home was conducted with authorization from the police and the public prosecutor in Mohammedia, allowing them to force entry, «collect visible evidence that could shed light on the investigation», and attend to the activist. Concerns arose among his close ones after he missed several usual appointments in the days leading up to the incident.
