Dutch-Moroccan footballer Anwar El Ghazi has denounced Israel's strike in Doha, calling it the act of a state that «has no respect for life, law, and order». Writing on X from the Qatari capital, the 30-year-old said: «I am currently in Doha, Qatar and have witnessed firsthand the illegal criminal acts of Israel». «If this is what they can do with impunity in a sovereign state like Qatar, then imagine the decades-long cruelty and oppression they have inflicted against defenseless Palestinian civilians and children. Are these the actions of a state that wants peace? When will the world wake up? Free Palestine», he argued. Israel confirmed it had carried out the strike on Tuesday, saying it was targeting Hamas officials. The attack was strongly condemned by Morocco's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which described it as a violation of Qatar's sovereignty. El Ghazi was in Doha to finalize his transfer to Qatari club Al Sailiya SC, following his stint with Cardiff City, he confirmed in a post on Wednesday, commenting «It is bittersweet as a result of the criminal attack by Israel on my new home yesterday». The winger has long been outspoken in his support for Palestine. In October 2023, he denounced what he described as a «genocide» in Gaza, which led to his dismissal from Mainz. In July 2024, he won his case against the German club, securing €1.5 million in compensation, of which he pledged €500,000 «to the children of Gaza».
