The Port Authority of Motril, situated in southern Spain, has announced the resumption of the maritime link with Tanger Med, following the strategic reorganization of routes by the company Balearia. In a statement, the Port Authority emphasized its commitment to finding a new operator to ensure the seamless continuation of this route, which has demonstrated remarkable success since its inception. Since its launch in December 2022, the Tanger Med–Motril route has handled a total of 1.27 million tons. The traffic surged from 10,886 tons initially to 444,449 tons in 2023, then 456,031 tons in 2024, and reached 361,632 tons in the first eight months of 2025. This growth trend is mirrored in truck transport, which climbed from 380 units in December 2022 to 16,310 in 2023, 17,511 in 2024, and already 14,636 in 2025, just before the final quarter. These figures underscore the strategic significance of the Tanger Med–Motril link and bolster the determination of the Spanish port authorities to maintain its operation with a new operator, the statement concluded.
