On Monday in Casablanca, the Children of the Oval Morocco (EDOM) and artistic director Maïa Vion unveiled their latest co-production, the musical «Piaf, Guests & Heirs». Supported by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, this initiative seeks to «promote the performing arts by providing a platform for young Moroccan talents and raising funds to enable the EDOM association to support more underprivileged children at its center in Mers el Kheir (Temara)», according to a press release. The association, known for its comprehensive educational support through rugby, is now showcasing a performance that reflects its dedication to «using culture as a tool for social inclusion», stated EDOM president Mohammed Missoum. With the motto «youth for youth» driving the project, the premiere is set for April 2026 in Rabat, marking the start of a tour across Casablanca, Marrakech, Meknès, Fès, Tangier, Agadir, and Mohammedia. This production embraces cultural diversity, offering «a musical journey through the decades from 1945 to 1980, revisiting the world of the iconic Edith Piaf and her contemporaries, before shining a spotlight on the heirs of this vibrant artistic era». During a press conference, the creators emphasized that the musical comedy is «brought to life by an entirely Moroccan cast of singers, dancers, actors, and live musicians». On stage, the performance blends «theater, singing, dance, and visual projections to deliver a message of tolerance and openness to cultural diversity». The entire show is expertly curated by Maïa Vion, a seasoned connoisseur of Edith Piaf's repertoire, who has been producing the Moroccan musical «Piaf Toujours» since 2008. For this new venture, she has assembled a mix of «established and emerging talents», including Diae Ettayebi (Starlight) as the musical director and choreographer Charafe Ennaji. The musical arrangements are in the capable hands of Marius Kouassi.
