Marseille defender Nayef Aguerd confirmed on Monday that he had been assaulted the previous day while waiting for his flight to Morocco to join the national team. «I was indeed assaulted at Marignane Airport while waiting for my flight to join the Moroccan national team», he wrote on Instagram, adding: «Fortunately, it was more of a scare than anything else… everything was quickly resolved thanks to the intervention of security personnel and law enforcement». The Moroccan international said the matter is now in police hands and thanked fans for their support, assuring: «I'm fine, and I'm now focused on what matters most to me: playing for OM and representing my country with pride». On Sunday, the Ligue 1 centre-back was approached by a man in the VIP area of Marseille Provence Airport who asked for a selfie and his phone number before becoming aggressive. Security quickly intervened, and Aguerd, 29, later boarded his flight to Rabat. Aguerd joined Marseille from West Ham this summer and has made four Ligue 1 appearances. He has now flown to Morocco ahead of the team's upcoming friendly against Bahrain on Thursday, followed by their final World Cup qualifier against Congo on October 14 in Rabat.
