Associates of pro-Palestinian activist Sion Assidon have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances under which the national coordinator of the BDS Morocco movement (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) was found unconscious last August at his home in Mohammedia. In a statement received by Yabiladi, his «friends and comrades in struggle» said that the «multiple blows and injuries, including skull fractures» leave «little doubt» about the possibility of an «assault». The 77-year-old remains in a coma. «The scenario quickly put forward by the police authorities points to a gardening accident», wrote the fifteen signatories, adding that «many questions have been overlooked, such as the medical report upon admission to the clinic and the subsequent examination by a forensic doctor». They believe that Assidon's activism against «the genocide in the Gaza Strip» and his campaigns «in support of the Palestinian people, particularly through BDS, and against Morocco's normalization with the Zionist entity» could constitute «elements of a possible crime motive». Before being found unconscious, Sion Assidon had led several initiatives, including a protest at the port of Casablanca against the docking of a Maersk ship allegedly carrying military equipment destined for the Israeli army. The signatories note that «none of this was mentioned» in the official investigation. Last month, the public prosecutor at the Casablanca Court of Appeal stated that investigators had discovered a stepladder, saw, pickaxe, and pruning shears in the garden of Assidon's house, along with trimmed plant remains. Inside, he was found unconscious on a sofa. Several personal belongings were also recovered, including shoes with grass stains, a mobile phone, keys, two laptops, and books neatly arranged, with no signs of forced entry.
