Twenty-nine European Parliament members, including six from Spain, have urged the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, to denounce the European Commission over a «controversial new trade agreement with Morocco». This agreement, which includes products from Western Sahara, took temporary effect on October 3. The group, featuring Spanish members Irene Montero and Isabel Serra (Podemos), Estrella Galán (Sumar), Ana Miranda (BNG), Vicent Marzà (Compromís), and Pernando Barrena (Bildu), has sent a letter to Metsola demanding a «formal and clear reprimand to the European Commission». They criticized the provisional implementation of the agreement without the European Parliament's consent, accusing Brussels of blatantly disregarding previous European Court of Justice rulings on the matter. The members argue that the agreement, which extends tariff preferences to products from Western Sahara, «undermines the international legal system» by «rewarding illegal occupation» and allowing Morocco to «continue economically exploiting the region».
