The Moroccan national football team continues to climb in the FIFA world rankings following its 1–0 victory over Bahrain yesterday. According to the provisional rankings, the Atlas Lions gained 1.57 points, bringing their total to 1707.84. They remain in 11th place, ahead of Germany (1704.27) and just behind Croatia (1709.34), which lost 4.86 points after drawing with the Czech Republic, and Italy, which holds 9th place with 1710.06 points. The competition for the top spots is extremely tight, with only six points separating four teams. This opens the door for Morocco to break into the world's top nine, a milestone that would secure them a spot in the first seeding pot for the 2026 World Cup draw. The draw is scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., marking the first World Cup in history to feature 48 teams. The tournament will be divided into 12 groups of four teams each. FIFA has already announced that the three host nations — Mexico, Canada, and the United States — will lead Groups A, B, and D respectively. The remaining teams will be assigned to the other groups based on their FIFA ranking. However, breaking into the top ten remains a challenge for Morocco. Even if the team is likely to win its upcoming match on Tuesday against Congo, ranked 133rd in the world, that victory alone will not earn enough points to climb further in the FIFA rankings. Morocco will have to wait for the results of the other teams close to it in the standings. The top two teams from each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to the knockout stage. Article modified on : 10/10/2025 15h00
