Today, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held a phone conversation with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, to discuss key issues currently on the UN Security Council's agenda. According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks centered on «the decolonization of Western Sahara» and other pressing matters under deliberation this month. The discussion comes just one day before the Security Council is set to vote on a U.S.-drafted resolution urging the resumption of negotiations on an autonomy proposal aimed at resolving the decades-long conflict over the territory. China, which voted in favor of Resolution 2756 extending MINURSO's mandate for another year, has maintained a balanced diplomatic stance on the Sahara issue. Meanwhile, Russia and Mozambique abstained from voting on the same resolution. During Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita's visit to Beijing in September, China reaffirmed its support for Morocco's sovereignty and territorial integrity. In discussions with Wang Yi, both ministers underscored their shared views on respecting national sovereignty, combating separatism and extremism, and strengthening cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
