The UNESCO Chair at the International University of Rabat (UIR) has announced the official launch of the 2025 edition of the World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) program. This year's initiative is themed «Phygital Heritage: Chellah & Oudayas between Virtual and Gamification». Scheduled from November 10 to 20, 2025, the program will gather young volunteers from Morocco and around the world to focus on preserving and promoting cultural heritage «through new technologies and innovative educational approaches», as stated in a press release. With this launch, a week of activities kicks off, «combining heritage, technology, and civic engagement». The program features «workshops on 3D modeling, photogrammetry, augmented and virtual reality», along with «the creation of an interactive 3D model and an immersive experience centered around the iconic sites of Chellah and Oudayas». The university highlights that these activities are part of an initiative to make heritage «more accessible, more entertaining, and more inclusive, while actively involving local communities». This effort is supported by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Sports, the Rabat-Salé Urban Agency, the Rabat Heritage Society, and the University of Florence.
