As outlined in the «Canary Agenda», the agreement between the Canarian Coalition (CC) and the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) that secured Pedro Sanchez's reappointment as prime minister, the Canary Islands government plans to request a meeting with Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares to «clarify the Spanish government's position on the United Nations resolution concerning Western Sahara». During a parliamentary session on Tuesday, Canary Islands President Fernando Clavijo responded to a question from Raúl Acosta, a deputy from the Coalition for El Hierro Party, which supports the Polisario Front. «There are numerous self-interested interpretations of the path to self-determination, and we need clarity», Clavijo said. He stressed that one of the main priorities in the Canary Agenda is to obtain detailed information from the central government on «all matters relating to Morocco and the Sahrawi people». Clavijo noted, «So far, we have received none». The regional president also remarked, «We would have preferred to play a role in shaping Spain's foreign policy, as we often find more understanding from Europe». Clavijo concluded by saying that the Canary Islands government will «closely monitor MINURSO's activities during its extended mandate year».
