Last Saturday, the Public Prosecutor for the Primary Court of Tetouan ordered the prosecution of five individuals linked to a covert paragliding network. This network had been using Mount Belyounech as a launch site for irregular migrants of various nationalities aiming to reach Ceuta. According to a report by Al Akhbar newspaper, these paragliding operations lacked essential safety and precautionary measures, posing a significant threat to the lives of participants. The authorities have detained one suspect, believed to be the leader behind the manufacturing and sale of parachutes to irregular migrants, as well as coordinating their flight preparations. The remaining suspects have been released on temporary bail, with court sessions scheduled to reveal further details of the case. Sources revealed that the Royal Gendarmerie in Fnideq successfully dismantled the network, arresting five irregular migrants who were attempting to paraglide to Ceuta. The equipment used in these attempts was also confiscated. The arrests followed precise intelligence on the network's activities, prompting field patrols to swiftly move in and apprehend those preparing for flight under the guidance of their associates. In a bid to curb this phenomenon, authorities in M'diq have coordinated with security and intelligence agencies to conduct rigorous patrols within the forests, preventing migrants from reaching Mount Belyounech's summit. Additionally, they have tightened security on the roads leading to the area to thwart any attempts forcrossing the border into Ceuta.
