The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has announced a pre-qualification call for contractors to build new ultra-high-voltage alternating current (UHT) transmission lines. Stretching over approximately 1,000 km, these lines will link the Boujdour and Tensift regions and ensure the long-distance transport of electricity. This initiative forms part of ONEE's strategy to reinforce the national electricity transmission network and support the kingdom's energy transition. It is included within a broader portfolio of major electrical infrastructure projects, operational, under construction, or in development, led by the Office. Among these is the future high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link currently being developed to directly connect southern Morocco to the central regions, according to ONEE's statement. The large-scale UHT line, expected to be commissioned by December 2028, is designed to carry around 2,000 MW of renewable electricity. After the pre-qualification stage, ONEE will shortlist companies to participate in the second phase, the official tender process, under an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contract model. The selected contractor will oversee the design, construction, and commissioning of the project under a turnkey arrangement. The deadline for submitting applications is set for January 15, 2026, at 12:00 PM (Moroccan time). Bid opening will take place on the same day, the statement adds.
