The Casablanca Public Prosecutor's Office decided yesterday, Thursday, to place influencer Soukaina Benjelloun, widely known online as the woman behind «the most expensive divorce in Morocco», in pre-trial detention at Oukacha prison, following defamation charges filed by her ex-husband. The King's Prosecutor at the Ain Sebaa Criminal Court ordered her remand and set her hearing for the same day. Benjelloun rose to prominence on social media after publishing videos in which she spoke at length about her personal life and her disputes with her former spouse, particularly over property, finances, and child custody. It is worth recalling that the Family Court had previously ordered her ex-husband to pay a total of 720,000 dirhams, 700,000 dirhams in alimony and 20,000 dirhams for special housing expenses, a ruling that led the media to label the case as «the most expensive divorce in Morocco».
