French automotive giant Renault is reportedly considering Morocco as the site for its next electric vehicle (EV) production hub, with the future Nador West Med port emerging as a leading candidate, according to Africa Intelligence. The news comes just as Morocco's Minister of Equipment, Nizar Baraka, confirmed that the deepwater port is expected to open in 2026. Renault Morocco has already outlined a «new phase» for its 2021–2030 roadmap, centered on expanding projects that integrate electrification technologies. The group aims to reach €2.5 billion in local sourcing by 2025, with a long-term goal of €3 billion (around 32 billion dirhams) and 80% local integration. Talk of Renault launching an EV plant in Morocco follows similar moves by Chinese manufacturers. Earlier this year, the Jinxiu Shanhe group signed an agreement with a Moroccan company to build an assembly plant in the country. Renault has maintained a strong industrial presence in Morocco since 2012, when it opened its major manufacturing facility in Tangier.
