DR ‹ › The political bureau of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) announced in a statement that, following the close of the nomination period to succeed Aziz Akhannouch as party leader, it had received a single candidacy, that of Mohamed Chouki. The bureau added that, after reviewing the nomination, it decided to submit it to an extraordinary party congress. The RNI, which currently leads the government, will hold an extraordinary session of its national congress on February 7, 2026, in the city of El Jadida. The agenda includes two items: the election of the party president and the extension of the party's structures and governing bodies. Mohamed Chouki currently serves as head of the RNI parliamentary group in the House of Representatives. A graduate of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, he was previously affiliated with the Authenticity and Modernity Party, where he served as regional coordinator for the Fes–Meknes region before joining the RNI. Aziz Akhannouch had earlier announced his decision not to seek a third term as party leader.
