DR ‹ › Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, dismissed any suggestion that the announced departure of Aziz Akhannouch from the presidency of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) could destabilize the ruling majority. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, January 15, following the weekly Government Council meeting, Baitas said that a statement issued last week by the RNI's political bureau «reaffirmed, without ambiguity, the full commitment of the party, alongside the other majority formations, to continuing the implementation of the political and programmatic commitments made before Parliament and within the government coalition». The spokesperson stressed that the continuity of government action rests on a solid institutional framework and a shared political will, regardless of internal developments within the majority parties, namely the RNI, the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), and the Istiqlal Party. By way of reminder, on January 11, Akhannouch informed members of the RNI's political bureau of his decision not to seek a third term as party leader. His succession will be decided on February 7 in El Jadida, during an extraordinary congress. The new party president will lead the RNI into the next legislative elections.
