DR ‹ › The Rabat Criminal Court on Thursday adjourned the case involving Senegalese supporters and an Algerian national accused of involvement in the riots during the Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal. The hearing was postponed until February 5, due to the lawyers' nationwide strike protesting the professional law. The decision came after the defendants, 19 individuals currently in pretrial detention, asserted their right to have their lawyers present during the proceedings. The session was attended by relatives of the Algerian defendant, observers from the Moroccan Human Rights Organization, as well as representatives of the French consulate, as he also holds French citizenship, and the Senegalese side. Outside the courthouse, dozens of relatives of the Senegalese defendants had gathered. The Senegalese fans and the Algerian citizen are being prosecuted on charges including participation in acts of violence during a sporting event, forcibly entering the pitch, damaging sports facilities, assaulting public security forces, and deliberately throwing solid objects that resulted in injuries.
